Youth PHBA World Show Program
(WSP)
|
|
Why Was This
Program Adopted By ALPEA?
The Youth World Show program
was developed by the membership to encourage all of our youth to set
goals and strive to achieve them by working as a team. It allows
our youth to hone their leadership skills and gain a great sense of
accomplishment. This program enables our youth to help each
other, as well as themselves. We all know that going to any world
horse show is neither cheap nor easy. Just by the hard work that
goes in to preparing both exhibitor and horse a huge accomplishment has
been achieved. This program is designed to help offset some of
the expenses incurred with the PHBA Youth World Show. This
program is also designed so that the amount of benefits they get out of
this program is totally dependent of the amount of work they put in to
it.
How Does It Work?
50% of all youth fundraising $ goes directly into the YWSP. The
money that goes into this program is ONLY gained by youth fundraising -
not by sponsorship donations. Only youth that have put effort
into the actual fundraising are eligible to receive any of the moneys
from the YWSP. The money is divided evenly amongst all those
eligible youth who compete at the PHBA Youth World Show. At the
end of the show year and in the event that none of our eligible youth
compete in the PHBA Youth World Show, all YWSP funds will roll into our
Alamo Gold Youth Scholarship fund. (The Alamo Youth Scholarship
is awarded at our Alamo Gold Fall Classic in the amount of $500.)
This will ensure that the fundraising money all stays with the
youth. After the world show, the fundraising & moneys start
fresh all over again with a $0 balance.
Why Is The YWSP Money Kept
For The Next Year If They Are Not Used That Year?
The YWSP money does not stay in the program from one year to the
next. It is either distributed amongst eligible youth or rolled
into the Alamo Gold Youth Scholarship fund. This ensures that the
only
the youth that participated in the program reap the benefits. It
also gives those youth a second chance at earning the funds by putting
the money in the scholarship fund.
How
Does A Youth Qualify?
This
program is pretty simple. All ALPEA youth who actively
participate in at least one youth fundraiser during the show year is
eligible. At the end of the World Show year ( From
one PHBA Youth World Show up to the next PHBA Youth World Show), all
youth that have shown at the PHBA Youth World Show will have the yearly
program funds for that year split evenly amongst them - regardless of
how well they placed or in how many classes they were entered.
How Does A Youth Apply
& Receive The Actual Money They Are Eligible To Receive?
In
order for an eligible Youth to receive their money from this program, a
Youth must 'declare' themselves by one week prior to the beginning of
the PHBA Youth World Show. The date will vary from year to year;
But, the date declaration date must be sent in to ALPEA at least one
week (7 regular days - to include holidays & weekends) prior to the
start of competition at the PHBA Youth World Show ( not the actual day
that the individual Youth might show). Declaration
Forms can
be mailed, faxed, or emailed to the this club at:

Any eligible Youth who do not make this
deadline will no longer be eligible to receive any money!!
The checks will be mailed after sufficient proof (if requested) of
participation has be provided. Proof can be provided by another
member (not related) being a witness, photos taken at the show, result
printout sheet from PHBA. (A payment receipt doea not always
prove the Youth attended as all entries have to be paid in advance.)
Are There Any Exceptions
Made For Youth To Earn This WSP Money?
Yes. Sometimes unforeseen things happen. If a YWSP eligible
youth goes to the PHBA Youth World Show to compete, has everything
paid, is ready to show, and - at the last minute - an injury happens,
this youth can ask for a special circumstance from the ALPEA Youth Vice
President. If approved, the YWSP funds would be divided just as
if the youth had been able to actually compete. The injury could
have been to the horse to be shown or to the eligible youth; However,
some type of proof might be requested by the Youth Vice President - but
not always. This proof request is at the Youth Vice President's
discretion. (This proof does not necessarily need to be a vet/dr.
check, but could include a written statement from a couple
witnesses.) This exception rule is meant to honor the whole idea
of the program. Keeping in mind that our youths have worked this
program to its fullest, ALPEA does not want to see it fail on coattails
of an unfortunate circumstance.
